Family Outreach Nights at Your School
Take Me There: Egypt
As you read through these station descriptions, please keep in mind that this program has been designed for families to learn and interact together.
Visit the Marketplace
Meals in Egypt are usually cooked at home and made from fresh ingredients, so the marketplace is central to the community. Families will view objects from the museum's collection, enjoy a spice-matching activity, and create a spice postcard to take home.
Write Like an Egyptian
Arabic writing is an important part of Egyptian culture. It is a beautiful art form that has been used for centuries to decorate homes, buildings, jewelry, and furniture. Practice writing from right to left and write a word in Arabic.
Silver Inspirations
Egyptian artisans make beautiful silver jewelry. Create jewelry to wear and take home using engraving tools and craft materials.
What's in Your Backpack?
Have you ever wondered what boys and girls in Egypt carry in their back packs? Explore items that may be found in an Egyptian student’s back pack and compare them to that of a student from the United States.
Putting Egypt on the Map
Explore the Nile River and its surrounding areas by creating a map and locating cities, pyramids and contiguous countries. Learn about the longest river in the world and why Egypt is "The Gift of the Nile."
The Rhythm of Egypt
Families will have fun with Egyptian instruments such as the tabla and riqq. Make and decorate a version of the riqq to take home for further exploration.
Investigation Station
Further your Egyptian exploration by delving into books on modern day Egypt and check out The Children’s Museum’s online Nile River Eco Tour module.
Sounds of Egypt Group Presentation
An interactive presentation featuring Egyptian instruments, followed by a facilitated drumming program to explore rhythm patterns.
